We are coming up on one of the most miraculous times in history, the birth of the Savior. Which made me think about miracles in our own lives and how to become a seeker of miracles.  So as you read this post, I hope you will think about where in your life are you seeking a miracle and keep that in mind. Maybe you will receive some revelation on HOW to make that happen for you.

Now one thing I thought about miracles for a long time was that they just happen to you. That there is no work involved and really it took some sort of luck or something to obtain. But after President Nelson’s talk in April 2022 called, The Power of Spiritual Momentum, I started thinking about them differently. I realized that we can work for miracles and really seek them in our lives. I found there are actually three ways that President Nelson talks about seeking miracles in our own lives in that talk. Today, I want to outline them so you too can receive miracles in your life. TO begin, here is the quote we are going to dissect and receive our instructions for seeking miracles. President Nelson said,

“Moroni assured us that “God has not ceased to be a God of miracles.” Every book of scripture demonstrates how willing the Lord is to intervene in the lives of those who believe in Him. He parted the Red Sea for Moses, helped Nephi retrieve the brass plates, and restored His Church through the Prophet Joseph Smith. Each of these miracles took time and may not have been exactly what those individuals originally requested from the Lord.

In the same way, the Lord will bless you with miracles if you believe in Him, “doubting nothing.” Do the spiritual work to seek miracles. Prayerfully ask God to help you exercise that kind of faith. I promise that you can experience for yourself that Jesus Christ “giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength.” Few things will accelerate your spiritual momentum more than realizing the Lord is helping you to move a mountain in your life.”

First of all I want to point out that we must do work on our part to seek those miracles. President Nelson says we need to do the spiritual work to make them happen. So the first thing you can do to seek miracles spiritually is to create space for them. As President Nelson outlined, “Each of these miracles took time and may not have been exactly what those individuals originally requested from the Lord.” You may not even realize it, but you might be closing off the possibility of miracles because you feel like the miracles should come in the way that you request. If you are so busy or dictating what your world should look like, then you aren’t creating space for miracles.

Miracles might be happening all around you, but you aren’t recognizing them because the miracle is coming in a different way than you requested. Or perhaps you are discounting the miraculous nature of things because it is coming in differently. What if Nephi, when he was getting the brass plates, just said it was coincidence that he got them in the way that he did. What if he felt that because God didn’t just provide them to him easily, then it wasn’t miraculous at all. He could have justified his way out of that miracle for a variety of reasons. But it was a miracle, and he recognized that.

So now ask yourself, as it pertains to the miracle you are seeking in your life, what are you doing to close off space for that miracle in your life? Are you dictating HOW the miracle needs to happen? One way to change this and open up space is to start recording your miracles. This is one of the reasons I love recording my prayers so much in my journals. I love sitting down each day and writing down where I saw God in my life and looking back on my day and seeing HOW he showed up for me. This changes my perspective on HOW I think things should be. There is power in recording your prayers. In fact, President Nelson in the October 2022 conference asked us to record our thoughts as we pray. This can be a great way to see miracles and open your mind to letting them happen.

The second way he asked us to seek miracles was to “prayerfully ask God to help you exercise that kind of faith. I promise that you can experience for yourself that Jesus Christ “giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength.”  There is so much power in asking. Asking opens the doors of heaven. Asking sends power beyond what you have now.

Sometimes we are creating the miracle in our own lives through the Savior’s enabling power. We need to ask Him to help us with that. Sitting down daily and pondering your day before you pray helps you to see what strength you need in your life. Then you can ask for that strength. If you just ask for strength in general, how will you know when you receive it? Be specific. What do you need strength for today and ask for it? But again, it may not come exactly how you asked, so it’s good to record it so you can look back the next day and see HOW God gave you the faith and strength necessary for the miracles to occur.

Again, considering the miracle you are seeking, what is it that you need from God in the next 24 hours that would provide you the strength to accomplish something towards that miracle? Notice, I didn’t say ACCOMPLISH the whole miracle, just something towards it.

That’s because this actually leads into the third way to seek miracles. What you are asking for may not happen in one day. When you are seeking miracles you need to allow for the small ones. Miracles are often happening over time with tiny miracles that eventually add up to the great ones.

Even President Nelson said it in that quote “realize the Lord is helping you move a mountain”. He may be helping you move that mountain one shovel scoop at a time right? If you are looking for the mountain to move in one day, you might miss the opportunity to seek the tiny miracles that actually move the whole mountain. This can also be done by recording miracles by writing down daily where you see God in your life. How you see Him showing up and then you will begin to see that He is moving that mountain in your life, one scoop at a time.

Reflecting again on the miracle you are seeking, how has God moved a scoop towards your miracle already? Now go and record those scoops so you can begin to see the mountain being moved. It may be in the smallest of ways with the tiniest shovel you've ever seen, but it is being moved.

There you have it, 3 ways to seek miracles. Create space for them, ask for the strength to make them happen, and allow for small ones. If you want a simple way to work on being a miracle seeker, check out my Seeking Personal Revelation Journal that allows you to have the framework to make the miracles happen. It allows you to see the miracles, ask for miracles, and record the small and simple miracles along the way so you can truly see how God is moving mountains in your life.
