Episode 173. 5 Self-Care Essentials

In preparation for this episode I was reading the scriptures for this week's Come Follow Me and as I read Alma 32:38-39 I knew I was on to something. It reads,

"But if ye neglect the tree, and take no thought for its nourishment, behold it will not get any root; and when the heat of the sun cometh and scorcheth it, because it hath no root it withers away, and ye pluck it up and cast it out.

Now, this is not because the seed was not good, neither is it because the fruit thereof would not be desirable; but it is because your ground is barren, and ye will not nourish the tree, therefore ye cannot have the fruit thereof."

I had many different thoughts and directions these scriptures took me but one thing that really applies to this topic of self-care is how easily the sun can come and scorch us if we do not build good roots in nourishing ourselves. I think of the sun as challenges or trials. If you don’t really nourish yourself with good self-care, when challenges or trials come, you will be affected in ways that you might not have if you had good nourished ground. 

So I want to focus on 5 essentials when it comes to good self-care. Often times when people think of self-care they think of pampering themselves and self-care is NOT synonymous with pampering. Self-care can be doing hard things, setting boundaries and taking unhealthy things out of your life. I have come up with 5 essentials when you are thinking about self-care. So let’s dive in!
