Episode 29: The Real Reason You're Not Receiving Revelation

One of the biggest questions I see women asking in regards to revelation is am I having a thought or a prompting. Knowing the difference is absolutely necessary because I don’t believe every good thought is a prompting. 

There is a reason you are having thoughts and not receiving revelation.

Natural Man

We all have a natural Man or also called the carnal mind inside of us. Alma 42:3-10 does an amazing job of explaining the process of how we gained the Natural man at the fall of Adam of Eve.

Now as I describe the natural man to you and the role it plays inside of us, you  might be thinking, why in the world do we need something like that? So I want you to remember that the natural man allows you to have agency. It allows you to have agency because it is an opposing force to God. 

Some great scriptures are:

D&C 29:39 39 And it must needs be that the ^adevil should ^btempt the children of men, or they could not be ^cagents unto themselves; for if they never should have ^dbitter they could not know the sweet

2 Nephi 2:15 15 And to bring about his eternal ^apurposes in the end of man, after he had ^bcreated our first parents, and the beasts of the field and the ^cfowls of the air, and in fine, all things which are created, it must needs be that there was an opposition; even the ^dforbidden ^efruit in ^fopposition to the ^gtree of life; the one being sweet and the other bitter.

Opposition

You have probably heard the scripture that the natural man is an enemy to God and when you think enemy you think bad. But enemy here just means opposing God. So the Natural Man is in direct opposition to God therefore creating agency and allows us choice .  If we didn’t have something opposing God inside of us, then we would only know and choose God.

We are not always in the Natural man or carnal state, but we become triggered there to create an opportunity to use our choice muscles. Choosing to be with Our Heavenly Parents over and over everyday. This is a part of the plan of salvation.

That we come to Earth and experience this opposition and choose whether we want to return back to our Heavenly Parents. This opposition inside of us allows us to create a deeper relationship with each member of the Godhead by choosing to spend time with them and accessing the power that they each have to offer you

Revelation

Now the natural man can not receive revelation because the natural man is without God. So the natural man only has thoughts, but these thoughts are also only self-driven. So we are only acting to make ourselves feel better.

Now you might think, well Niki I do want to feel better. The problem is that the natural man can only have opposing thoughts to God. So think about it, what would your Heavenly Parents say about you if they were here?

They would be telling you how much they love you, how needed you are and you be pointing out all the wonderful qualities you have. The opposite of that is to tell you how you are not good enough, you will never measure up, and just give up.

Hearing these types of thoughts can create a lot of doubt right? It can also make you feel a lot of guilt, inadequacies and fear.  

These types of thoughts are so powerful and we start believing them and identify with them as who we are. I often call this state the Identity System state for that reason. We over identify with this state as who we are and we are NOT what our thoughts say we are.

We are always daughters of God with endless possibilities. Operating from this state and for wrong purpose-to feel better about self, will never feel satisfying because the Natural man is only designed to feel unhappiness.

Alma 41:11 And now, my son, all men that are in a state of ​​​nature​, or I would say, in a ​​​carnal​ state, are in the ​​​gall of bitterness​ and in the ​​​bonds​ of iniquity; they are ​​​without​ God in the world, and they have gone ​​​contrary​ to the nature of God; therefore, they are in a state contrary to the nature of happiness. 

In other words the thoughts of the Natural man creates roadblocks to you receiving revelation and feeling happy. So that Natural man will have a feeling of never ending enoughness because you are trying to feel fulfilled without God

Also acting on “thoughts” from this state will keep you from wanting to act on revelation in the future because you will feel like it wasn’t worth it, you didn’t see a result or not feel better. The natural man also builds distrust in ourselves and a feeling of distance from God and what we are being told.

You will also feel an urgency behind your thoughts when having thoughts in the carnal mind. The opposite of the Natural Man is your True Divine self.

True Divine Self

Your true Divine Self is connected to God and receives a fluid stream of revelation. Anything done from this state is to build the kingdom of God. In this state you will have clarity in your thoughts. They will not be cluttered, unfocused or confusing, but not fully understanding. 

With revelation we are often just given the next step not the whole picture. But we are clear on what our next steps are.

Your Divine self can feel nervous but also a sense of peace at the same time. Your Divine self will feel confidence, self love and overall satisfactory feeling because of the connection with the Savior and His enabling power, our connection with our Heavenly Parents and their purpose and plan and the Holy Ghost with guidance, peace and direction.

Acting from your true divine self Leads to growth and development, faith and testimony and a better way of doing things. Even though we receive revelation in this state it doesn’t mean we will always feel comfortable.

We can have revelation in our true self, then feel uncomfortable and our natural man can wake up and keep us from acting on that revelation.

In 2012 he gave a talk titled Where is the Pavilion 

“Many of us, in moments of personal anguish, feel that God is far from us. The pavilion that seems to intercept divine aid does not cover God but occasionally covers us. God is never hidden, yet sometimes we are,covered by a pavilion of motivations that draw us away from God and make Him seem distant and inaccessible. Our own desires, rather than a feeling of “Thy will be done,”2 create the feeling of a pavilion blocking God. God is not unable to see us or communicate with us, but we may be unwilling to listen or submit to His will and His time. The pavilion that seems to be hiding you from God may be fear of man rather than this desire to serve others."

Your job is to remove the pavilion. What is The pavilion? The natural man.

Now we can’t remove the natural man from us but we can remove it from being in the driver seat. That way you know you are receiving revelation and not just thoughts.
